ABOUT THE BRISTOL HOUSING FESTIVAL
Read below or watch our 2 minute video to find out more about the Bristol Housing Festival. You may also want to meet our team or read about our umbrella organisation, Housing Festival Limited.
At the Bristol Housing Festival, we’re asking you to re-imagine better ways to live in our cities. We face a national crisis in housing, a climate crisis, and a construction skills shortage in the industry, but we see in this crisis a powerful opportunity to do things differently. We’re bringing together industry leaders, working with local governments and engaging the public to bring healthy and resilient communities to the forefront of the conversation on housing.
The Bristol Housing Festival is a five year project, hosting an ongoing conversation in various forms to incubate and pilot new ideas, with the goal of finding scalable solutions. We launched with our first expo in 2018, and you can read about this and our other expos here.
We’re piloting a number of projects across the city in partnership with Bristol City Council and others, and you can find out more about them on our projects page. We host events, round table discussions and public exhibitions of the latest innovation in off-site manufacturing solutions and modern methods of construction. If you’re interested in our research, see our resources page.
We’re not just interested in new ways to build houses, we’re interested in new ways of thinking about the role of housing in creating great places that support communities. We talk about and test possible solutions to these issues such as intergenerational living, co-housing and community facilities and look for innovation to address the needs of vulnerable groups.
Our belief is that there is no systemic change without innovation so testing these solutions are an integral part of our ethos. When we test new methods, we look at the quality, the sustainability and whether they’re scalable. We want homes that are affordable, adaptable and suitable for future residents.
Part of Bristol’s One City Plan for 2050 is that everybody has access to affordable housing in a safe, thriving community. Bristol Housing Festival is committed to supporting this vision by creating a platform for shared learning, piloting solutions and bringing sustainability and social value back to the forefront of housing.
